Winter at Blanchard
Blanchard Springs Caverns has begun its winter schedule, which runs from November through March. The Caverns are open five days a week, Wednesdays through Sunday, and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The Caverns are also closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
This time of year, caverns tours are a little slower paced, since we're not seeing as many visitors. Guides can spend more time with the visitors and on interpretation of the Caverns' wonders. The Springs are running great this year because of all the rain we had earlier.
The annual "Caroling in the Caverns" music shows are presented on December 5-6, December 12-13, and December 19-20. These special shows are a joint presentation with Mountain View Chamber of Commerce and the US Forest Service. They feature local musicians doing songs for one hour in the Caverns' magnificent Cathedral Room. While all fourteen of this year's shows are sold out, you may want to contact the Mtn. View Chamber at 870- 269-8068 and ask about next year's presentations.
The Ozark Interpretive Association gift shop is gearing up for Christmas, too. They have many new items that would make great presents for the outdoor-oriented person on your list. These include aluminum water bottles, birhouse kits, and kid-sized binoculars. Speaking of presents, the Wild Cave Tour is a novel present fo a special someone. We can make a gift certificate if you'd like to gift someone a caverns tour - just give us a call at 870-757-2211.
