Cotter Trout Festival Friday and Saturday

By admin
We enjoyed a leisurely walk through the Cotter Trout Festival today. Over 75 vendors shared their wares, everything from jewelry to homemade honey to art work to river boats. Several artists new to the festival displayed their paintings. The quality is superb with professionalism all around. Several of the most important groups who protect and promote our rivers are also on hand to give information and encourage you to join: North Arkansas Fly Fishers, Trout Unlimited, and Friends of the Norfork and White Rivers. Any festival worth its salt wouldn't be without food. Choose from kettle corn, wraps, funnel cakes, the Salsa Lady's special blend and more. Coming attractions tomorrow include the kids fishing event, fly casting lessons, fly tying and musicians. I'll be at a table with the Friends of the Norfork and White Rivers group.

Trophy Trout Fishing High Water

By Gastons White River Resort
This spring rains might have brought much stress and high water to the Ozark Mountain Region, but it also brought beauty to the woods and new food sources to the waters. During the periods of higher water elevation, the trout of the white river gorged themselves with worms washed out from the river banks and fish that came over or through the spillways at Bull Shoals Dam. These trout had new feeding grounds for about a two week stretch and filled their bellies, helping them grow. The high water also helped many trophy brown trout downstream voluntarily or involuntarily out of their normal hidy-holes and revealing much of the natural beauty of the rock beds that lay underneath the white river where many of these big trout like to feed.

February 1st - It's like Christmas to Trout Fishermen on the White River

By Gastons White River Resort
Christmas is to children, like The Catch and Release Area below Bull Shoals Dam is to the White River Trout Fisherman. The trophy trout have been able to feed, breed, and grow without any negative pressure from an outside source. Many of the Brown Trout have been spawning over the past two months and are now hungry. These trophies are going to be hungry and agressive, feeding on some if not all flies and bait fish. Any fishermen willing to try their luck in what could be cold weather, has the potential to catch, photograph, and release a real Trophy Trout. The bite should be nothing short of magical!

A Little White River History Lesson

By HisPlaceResort
Hey, everyone! I love it when I run across stories about the history of the White River… it gets me to imaginin’ exactly what it was like when my dad was here many years ago; fishing this very area of the White River in the late 1950s & early 1960s. What’s even more cool, is the fact that it really hasn’t changed all that much… in many ways the Ozarks is just like it was those 60 years ago, more or less frozen in time.  And I hope we can keep it that way, too. But today, it takes some serious work to keep the area pristine and the rivers healthy.  One such organization is the UWRB — the Upper White River Basin Foundation.  This group of fine folks keeps an eye on all things relating to the rivers & entire watershed in this area. I thought y’all might be interested in what they do — their website is http://www.uwrb.org/.  When you get a chance, check them out!  They have a lot of great information there, and if you have ever had the urge to help protect our Ozark Waters, you definitely want to get in touch with these folks! ...

Another Grand Slam: On Dry flies:

By moose
May 12th, 2010 Yesterday was another first at The White River Inn. Terry Carlson and his son Henry came down from Minnesota to try their hand at Flyfishing. The beginners luck thing must be real! They both enjoyed a fantastic day of dry fly fishing with Davy, and to top it all off,Henry caught a grand slam on dries {rainbow, brown, cutthroat, and brook trout}. This is only the second grand slam on the White River for any of our guests in five years of business, and the only one on dries. Congrats to you Henry and may all your days be as successful. I can’t wait to see how his day at the Bull Shoals Dam goes. Perhaps a 30 inch brown if his luck holds out. The fishing is just as good as it gets right now!

A Summer at Cotter

By HisPlaceResort
Well, this week I’m going to tell you a little story…  Or, actually, I’m going to let my Daddy tell you a little story.  You see, my Daddy used to trout fish the White River all around Cotter, long before I was born.  I had no idea that he’d ever been here until after my husband Steve and I bought the resort in 2002. I remember how excited he was, and boy, he had plenty to tell me about the area!  (Come to think on it, there was plenty he would NOT tell me either…  like how he got kicked out of one of the finer Cotter lodging facilities of the day…  Hmmm…  I’ll have to ask him about that again…) Oh yeah, forgot to mention…  after you read this, you’ll realize that I am indeed my father’s daughter.  It took a man like this to create the White River Trout Diva… I’ll let him tell y’all about it in his own words…  enjoy! A Summer at Cotter By Bob Watts It was the spring of 1955.   Just got out of the Air Force for the second time.  This last tour was about 4 ½ years.  Didn’t get any trout ...
