Arkansas Vacation without leaves

For the most part, our fall foliage season has come and gone - about 2 weeks earlier this year from last.   Now dreaded winter right?   Oh not so fast.   We have nearly two full months before official beginning of Winter.   We have at least one full month before our typical Winter weather begins.

Hiking and Canoeing is just now getting perfect for those of us that like to see further than a few feet off the trail.   With the leaves gone and the underbrush subdued, it is much easier and more comfortable to hike.  A view from the river or lake is now much deeper into the wooded land significantly improving our view of wildlife and the rock structures of our ozarks.

Readers of this blog are well aware of my annual camp trip(s) on the Buffalo National River.  Since the leaves have left us earlier than normal, my brother and I have moved our fall season trip up a couple weeks as well.  November can allow for surprisingly good fishing - much like any other season, it depends some on th immediate weather.   With water temperatures cooler, then we need to work our lures a little slower - but we usually do quite well fishing even in November.

But fishing is just a bonus of this trip.  We enjoy this trip because we can see what is masked behind the woodine during typical floating season.  We can peer much deeper into the Ozarks with much less traffic on the river to disrupt our thoughts.  Yep, we carry an extra blanket in our sleeping bags.  We make camp earlier and break it a little later as it sometimes takes a while to pry us from the warm fire on cold mornings.   But the scenery is well worth it.

Hope you get out into the mountains for a fall time trip.
