You need to experience the real thing

The blogging, the tweeting, the posting on facebook, the constant deluge of instant photography (remember the Polaroid?).

My wife and I loaded up for the family vacation and went northwest this year.   We drove through SD and over to Yellowstone.  Why would we?  I have seen how many pictures of Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, and most of the mountain passes in between.  I have watched as friends post on their Facebook accounts and tweet of their travels.  I have seen so many pictures and read so much that I pretty well knew exactly what I was going to see.   Right ?    Nope - not for a moment.   Being there and experiencing it all was completely different for me.

In my past, I guided trout fishermen on the White  River for about 15 years.  I have seen and heard the joy of people as they catch that first trout, or that trophy. They start taking pictures, and now, they even immediately post that information live on the web for all their friends and family to see.  Of course they want to share that moment with everyone they know.   I don't blame them for trying, but I know, that there is no way to pass on the actual feeling of catching that fish.  It is something that must be experience first hand.   No way to GET that through electronics.

Your friends are likely posting their vacation photos.   I bet some of them are from the Ozarks.  Enjoy the picture, but come experience the real thing.  You will find out why they took the time to post the picture for you.
